Baker’s Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) degree provides opportunities to enhance your skills in these areas and either take the next step in your current career or move to an entirely different career. The 36 hour program allows you to explore your personal and professional interests in a variety of intellectually stimulating content areas. You will emerge with a deeper understanding of the interrelatedness of various disciplines and an enhanced ability to critically evaluate and communicate.

Accelerated Classes – Our Master’s degree programs are designed to work with your existing schedule and lifestyle. Accelerated classes meet one night each week or on Saturday mornings during the school year, and either during the day or in the evening during the summer for 6 or 7 weeks.

Apply and Start Anytime – Our classes are held year round with new classes starting every 6 or 7 weeks. Start a program at any time during the year and take classes at your own pace.

Flexible Curriculum – Our MLA degree allows you to choose courses that really interest and appeal to you. Beyond the initial 21 hour core, you will have the opportunity to either take courses from a wide variety of disciplines or choose a specific concentration.

Online Courses – Several MLA courses are offered online, making it even more convenient to pursue your degree.

Ability to Specialize – An MLA degree is ideal for those who want to diversify their knowledge, yet specialize in an area. Choosing an area of concentration allows you the opportunity to delve more deeply into a subject area that is of special interest to you.

Transfer Hours – You can apply up to six credit hours of approved graduate credit completed prior to entering our degree program.

History – Explore a wide variety of historical events and gain a better understanding of the impact of past events on today’s society.

Literature – Examine a wide variety of topics from the literary genre.

Management and Leadership Strengthen your leadership skills, gain a better understanding of the group dynamics and behaviors involved in organizations, and examine current leadership challenges and trends.

Philosophy – Explore fundamental human issues in philosophy and religion.

Religion – Explore various religions and examine the traditions, beliefs, and impact of religion on people and society.

Science and Culture – Examine science and culture and reflect on the impact one has upon the other in our society.

Social Science – Study a diverse array of courses from the social sciences including psychology, sociology, and criminal justice.

Capstone Project - Your capstone project is a portfolio designed to assess your growth and development throughout our program. Portfolios are required and must be submitted to the faculty prior to graduation.

• The Creative Arts - Art, Music, Literature, Theatre (6 hrs)
• History & Ideas – History, Philosophy, Religion (6 hrs)
•The Sciences – Psychology, Sociology, Ecology (6 hrs)

15 additional credit hours.
Choose courses from various disciplines or opt for a concentration in one of 11 areas: Art, Dispute Resolution, Education, History, Gender Studies, Literature, Management and Leadership, Philosophy, Religion, Social Sciences, Science and Culture.

MLA Concentration Areas:

Art – Explore film, music, theatre, and art courses designed to further expand your knowledge of and appreciation for the arts.

Education –Examine various issues and topics in education. (Designed for K-12 teachers)

Gender Studies – Gain an understanding of how gender dynamics impact your world as well as the greater world in which you live.
