What is the Master degree in Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution
(CMDR) Program?
The CMDR Program is designed for working adults
who seek a graduate degree concentrating on resolving disputes
and managing conflict in numerous settings. The curriculum will
ground students in the fundamental concepts, theories and approaches
in conflict management and dispute resolution. With the focus
on both academic and practical skill development, the CMDR Program
offers a rich learning environment in which a diverse group
of students can learn from and interact with Instructors who
are experienced scholar-practitioners. The CMDR Program will
also provide opportunities for students to acquire new skills
and refine existing skills in actual practice settings under
the supervision of experienced mentors. Coursework is designed
to enhance students’ understanding of their professional
and ethical responsibilities and to help them to resolve ethical
dilemmas in conflict management and dispute resolution practice
situations. CMDR Program requirements meet and exceed professional
standards of practice adopted by professional organizations, court
systems, government agencies and private employers.
2. How will this CMDR master’s
degree help me in advancing my career?
Many organizations and employers are very much aware of the drop
in productivity when conflicts arise among employees, customers,
patrons, and vendors. Having a Master of CMDR will be very attractive
to numerous employers in your field of expertise. Entrepreneurs
are constantly engaged in problem solving and relationship building

3. Will I be “Certified by the State”?
Currently, there is no ‘dispute resolution certification’ in
Kansas or Missouri. However, Kansas, as well as many other states,
does have an approval program for mediators who want to receive
court appointed casework.
4. Is financial aid available?
As an accredited university, students may qualify for financial
aid. Please contact the Financial Aid Office at 913.491.4432
to find out how to begin this process. Additionally, many area
employers recognize the value of conflict management and dispute
resolution training in the workplace and gladly offer tuition
reimbursement in exchange for your value-added skill set. Please
ask your individual employer if they offer such a benefit.
5. Is this Program only for lawyers or people working in the
business sector?
No, the skills taught here apply to everyone, regardless of your
chosen field or job title. The concepts you learn here can be
applied immediately to your daily life both professionally and
personally. Our Program is open to all graduate-level professionals
regardless of age or background. Due to the beneficial nature
of the material, a number of specialized fields such as education,
commercial, philanthropic, military, government, and religious
organizations are strong advocates of conflict management. |
